Designed with English language learners (ELLs) in mind, these videos illustrate concepts such as creating language objectives, accessing prior knowledge, building vocabulary and concept knowledge, engaging students with interaction, teaching learning strategies, and assessing student progress.


The revised ELPS Toolkit was produced by Anna Matis Briggs. Anna is an ESL Education Specialist and Program Manager for the Bilingual/ESL team at Region 13 ESC. Her love of language learning stems from childhood experiences as an ESL learner from Budapest, Hungary. Anna began her language teaching career at Aldine ISD in Houston, TX, and has worked as an ESL Instructional Coach in Round Rock ISD. Anna has an M.A. in Foreign Language Education with a focus in ESL Instruction from the University of Texas. In her role at Region 13, Anna works primarily with secondary schools to train teachers and administrators in better meeting the linguistic needs of their students. She is passionate about second language acquisition, sheltered instruction, literacy strategies, and research pertaining to Long Term ELLs.
